An attention-based method for extracting salient regions of interest from stereo images

چکیده
The fundamental problem of computer vision is caused by the translation of a three-dimensional world onto one or more two-dimensional planes. As a result, methods for extracting regions of interest (ROIs) have certain limitations that cannot be overcome with traditional techniques that only utilize a single projection of the image. For example, while it is difficult to distinguished two overlapping, homogeneous regions with a single intensity or color image, depth information can usually easily be used to separate the regions. In this paper we present an extension to an existing saliency-based ROI extraction method. By adding depth information to the existing method many previously difficult scenarios can now be handled. Experimental results show consistently improved ROI segmentation.

Salient regions detection in satellite images using the combination of MSER local features detector and saliency models
Nowadays, due to quality development of satellite images, automatic target detection on these images has been attracted many researchers' attention. Remote-sensing images follow various geospatial targets; these targets are generally man-made and have a distinctive structure from their surrounding areas. Different methods have been developed for automatic target detection. In most of these met...
متن کاملContourlet-Based Edge Extraction for Image Registration
Image registration is a crucial step in most image processing tasks for which the final result is achieved from a combination of various resources. In general, the majority of registration methods consist of the following four steps: feature extraction, feature matching, transform modeling, and finally image resampling. As the accuracy of a registration process is highly dependent to the fe...
متن کاملJust Noticeable Difference Estimation Using Visual Saliency in Images
Due to some physiological and physical limitations in the brain and the eye, the human visual system (HVS) is unable to perceive some changes in the visual signal whose range is lower than a certain threshold so-called just-noticeable distortion (JND) threshold. Visual attention (VA) provides a mechanism for selection of particular aspects of a visual scene so as to reduce the computational loa...
متن کاملDynamic Pushbroom Stereo Mosaics for Moving Target Extraction
Our goal is to rapidly acquire panoramic mosaicing maps with information of all 3D (moving) targets as a light aerial vehicle with a video camera fights over an unknown area. Parallel-perspective pushbroom stereo mosaics approach has been proven to be an effective method to stabilize image sequences and to obtain better 3D reconstruction results than using interframe motion stereo. In this pape...
متن کاملAttention Based Facial Symmetry Detection
Symmetry is a fundamental structure that is found to some extent in all images. It is thought to be an important factor in the human visual system for obtaining understanding and extracting semantics from visual material. This paper describes a method of detecting axes of reflective symmetry in faces that does not require prior assumptions about the image being analysed. The approach is derived...
